About the project

Merino & Co is a Christchurch apparel brand selling premium New Zealand merino knitwear at home and overseas. Their Shopify theme had grown slow and clunky — heavy pages, a sluggish mobile experience, and conversion leaking on every step. We rebuilt the storefront headless on Shopify Plus using Hydrogen and Oxygen: a lightning-fast React front-end backed by the Storefront API, with Cin7 inventory, Klaviyo lifecycle marketing, and a refined product experience. Pages that took seconds now load instantly, and mobile conversion jumped.

The challenge

Merino & Co's Shopify theme had accreted years of apps and custom Liquid, leaving pages heavy and slow — especially on mobile, where most of their traffic and the worst of their bounce lived. Every extra second was measurably costing sales during peak winter demand. They wanted the speed and freedom of a headless build without losing Shopify's checkout, admin, and app ecosystem, and without tanking their hard-won SEO in the migration.
