About the project

Great Walks Co runs guided multi-day hikes and adventure tours across New Zealand's backcountry, from the Routeburn to Fiordland. They were losing bookings to OTAs and juggling availability in spreadsheets and email. We built a custom Next.js booking platform with real-time availability, seat and departure management, Stripe payments, automated confirmations and pre-trip info, and GST invoicing via Xero. Direct bookings climbed as travellers could finally see live availability and book instantly — cutting the OTA commission bill.

The challenge

Great Walks Co was paying heavy OTA commissions while managing departures in spreadsheets, and double-bookings and manual email confirmations were eating the founders' time. Travellers researching on mobile couldn't see live availability, so they booked elsewhere. The team needed a fast, trustworthy direct-booking experience that could handle the real complexity of multi-day, capacity-limited trips with deposits and balances.
