Project overview
About the project
Halo Payments is a Sydney fintech processing card and account-to-account payments for Australian merchants. Their monolith ran on ageing single servers with manual deploys and scary release nights — a poor fit for a business that must never go down. We re-platformed Halo onto AWS with a Kubernetes (EKS) foundation, infrastructure-as-code, automated CI/CD, and full observability. The migration completed with zero downtime, deploys went from fortnightly and tense to daily and boring, and the platform now scales automatically through peak load.
The challenge
Halo's platform ran on a handful of hand-configured servers with manual, fortnightly deploys that everyone dreaded. For a payments company, downtime is lost money and lost trust, yet there was no auto-scaling for peak load, limited visibility when something went wrong, and no clean rollback path. They needed modern, resilient, auditable infrastructure — migrated without a single minute of downtime for live merchants.
Our approach
How we delivered
Assessment & IaC
Audited the estate and codified target infrastructure as Terraform, establishing environments and guardrails.
Containerisation
Containerised services and built an EKS platform with auto-scaling, secrets management, and network segmentation.
CI/CD & Observability
Automated CI/CD with canary and blue/green rollouts and added metrics, logs, tracing, and alerting end to end.
Zero-Downtime Cutover
Migrated traffic incrementally with fallbacks, completing the move with no downtime for live merchants.
