Project overview
About the project
Kiwi Gardener is a long-running New Zealand gardening publication with decades of articles and a loyal audience. Their ageing WordPress site was slow, hard to edit, and couldn't feed the newsletter and app without copy-paste. We migrated them to a headless CMS (Sanity) with a Next.js front-end: a fast, modern reader experience, a clean editor with structured content and reusable blocks, an automated image pipeline, and a single content source that publishes to web, newsletter, and app at once. Editors move faster and pages finally score green on Core Web Vitals.
The challenge
Kiwi Gardener's WordPress had become a liability: slow pages, a plugin sprawl that broke on updates, and an editor experience that made simple changes painful. Repurposing an article for the newsletter or app meant copy-pasting and reformatting by hand. They needed a modern, fast, structured content platform — and a migration that preserved decades of archives and their search rankings.
